Allene Schilder

Allene Joy Schilder, age 84, passed away October 19, 2012 in Sun City, Arizona. She was born February 2, 1928 in London, Ontario, Canada. She moved to California as a child settling in the San Diego area. Allene graduated from San Diego High School and later earned an Associate of Science degree in nursing at the San Diego County Hospital. She joined the U.S. Air Force in October of 1951 serving as a combat flight nurse during the Korean Conflict. She received several commendations for her military service including the Air Medal for service under enemy fire. Following her military service she returned to San Diego and worked as a nurse for many years at several local hospitals. She continued her education during that time earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Science at San Diego State University. Allene was a member of the National Retired Military Officers Association and was the first female to be elected a chapter president in the organizations history. Allene also received her teaching credential and taught nursing at San Diego Community College. She married Charles Schilder in 1971 and moved to Oregon in 1984, settling in Wilderville where they lived until coming to Arizona in 2004. She was preceded in death by a daughter Gail Lund in 1996. She is survived by her husband Charles "Chuck" Schilder of Salome and children: Terrylee Cox of England and Kristoffer Lund of San Diego, step-children: Nancy Ferguson of Hayfork, CA, Thomas Schilder of Landsdale, PA and Jennifer Schilder of San Diego, CA., sister Jeanne Cooper of Reno, NV, grandchildren: Lisa Lund, Kara Lund, Marissa Cox, Catherine Guerin, Lorena Ferguson, Brett Ferguson, Kiley Schilder and Quinn Schilder. A Celebration of Allene's life will be held on December 8, 2012 at 12:00 PM at the Indian Hills Air Park in Salome, AZ.
