Beverly Cook

May 13, 1933 — December 11, 2020

Beverly Jane Dierking Cook passed away suddenly in Wickenburg, on December 11, 2020.

Jane was born in the upstairs living quarters of a train depot on May 13, 1933 in Hollis, Kansas to Otto and Lucy Dierking. She graduated high school in Linn, Kansas, and later married Jere Cook on November 2, 1952. Jere's service in the Navy, moved them to Naples, Italy where they lived for several years before making their way back to the United States. They also lived in Chincoteague, Virginia before settling in Phoenix, Arizona in the late 1950's .

Jane enjoyed working in the banking industry for a number of years, working at Western Savings and Loan until the birth of her only child, Kimberley Dee in Phoenix, in 1963. She was then a stay home mother and housewife who enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking. She was a marvelous cook and could make wonderful meals out of what was kept in her freezer and pantry. She rarely used a recipe and loved to make soup.

After living in Phoenix for several years, the family moved to Florence, then Coolidge and Casa Grande, Arizona.

In 1975, Jane and Kim moved to Prescott, Arizona, to begin a new adventure, and Jane took a clerical job at the Yavapai County Treasurer's Office. She retired in 1998 and began her retirement years traveling around the state on some group tours. She also enjoyed taking classes at Yavapai Community college; German and archeology were two of her favorites. The highlight of her life in her later years however, was spending time with her two grandsons. She made a point to find meaningful things to do with them and took such joy in watching them become wonderful grown men.

In 2013, Jane moved to Wickenburg, Arizona, to be closer to her family. She loved the beauty of the desert, was active in the monthly book club that met at the library and spent good time with her cat. Jane spent her last year living in an independent apartment at My Father's Retirement Ranch community and she was so appreciative of the friends she made there and the help she received.

Survivors are daughter, Kim (David) Higgins of Wickenburg; grandsons Greg (Valerie) Higgins and Brian (fiance Heather Paffrath) of Mesa, Arizona; 7 nieces and nephews in Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma and England.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents; sister Ruth Sottong and brother DD Dierking.

Private services will be held for the family at a later time. Arrangements have been handled by Wickenburg Funeral Home.
