He graduated in 1960 from Tech High School in Indiana and joined the Navy right out of high school from1960-1962. He has been all over the world, then was going to join the C Bee's. He was on two ships, the Navosota & the Monte Keya. The Novosota ship was involved in 3 Typhoons & was damaged. When the ship pulled into Long Beach, Charles got into a car with 5 of his fellow sailors and they were hit by a Freeway Flyer Bus. Charles was the only one hurt! He ended up at the V.A. Charles was so very special and everyone loved him. We joined Redeemer Lutherine Church and have been there for 32 years. He was a very special man and I will miss him so very much! There was no stopping him even in a wheelchair for 64 years, he did everything he wanted to do! You couldn't keep him down. We were married for 58 years. It would have been 59 on Dec.9th.
He has a cousin that is local to Wickenburg by Jon Hopkins, 2 sisters Cathie Gozaway & Claire Jean Wilson and a nephew Mikeal Leroy Wilson. He has tons of family that still live in Indianapolis, In as well.
He was sent to San Dieago to go out on a Navy Ship. His remains will be put into the sea and they will play Taps and do his 21 gun sulute as he takes his last ride. His Flag alond with his shells and video will be all sent back to his adoring wife Sharon Dirr.
