Dennis Anthony Stetler passed away at the Prescott VA Hospital on June 1, 2015, at the age of 68, from complications related to a chronic illness. Dennis was born on July 10, 1946 in Garrett, Indiana, the son of Patrick and Briarly Stetler. He grew up in Riverside, California and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from high school. He bravely fought in the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Purple Heart and many other unit medals, prior to being honorably discharged from military service. Dennis worked in the grocery and food service warehouse industry for 35 years prior to retiring to live in Peeples Valley, Arizona. He was a great story-teller, an avid landscaper, and a collector of military memorabilia and firearms. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Cody; his daughter, Gretchen Stetler; his sister, Pat Mahaffey; his brother-in-law, Ted Mahaffey; his niece, Traci Arthur; his aunt, Agnes Chamberlain; and his cousins Virgilia Baldo Van Ormer and Abbie Green. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9:00 AM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona. A celebratory "Day-After Party" will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 6:00 PM at Dennis's home in Peeples Valley. Donations in Dennis's memory may be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, as this was his favorite charity he generously donated to all his life.
