Dolores Ellington

Dolores "Oma" Louise Ellington (Hohm), passed away peacefully on September 30, 2023, at the age of 94 in Surprise, AZ. She was born on March 14, 1929, in Chicago, IL, to her parents, Alois and Josephine Hohm. Dolores was a faithful and devoted lover of the Lord, her husband of 62 years - Dave, her family, and her friends. The Joy of the Lord was truly her strength and her song! 



Dolores was a prolific artist and writer, a creative home decorator, and an excellent cook. She especially enjoyed making doll houses and celebrating every holiday with full decor. She delighted in hosting family gatherings and was always singing a joyous melody of praise. She was also a dedicated Catholic and a long-standing participating member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Phoenix, AZ, as well as a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wickenburg, AZ. She joyfully served in multiple ministries including the Choir, a regular Liturgist, and a certified Eucharist Minister. 



Dolores is survived by her loving children: David Joseph Ellington of Phoenix, AZ, Linda (John) Skartvedt of Peoria, AZ, Debbie (Len) Albright of Desert Hills, AZ, Jim Ellington of Allen, TX, Thomas Ellington of Parks, AZ, and Charda (Brent) Lively of Durango, CO. She was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. 



She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Emmet Ellington, on September 5, 2011, and her son, David James, on August 24, 1950. Dolores will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 



A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, starting at 11:30 am at the Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory (187 N. Adams Street). We will continue with a special Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (232 N. Tegner) at 1:00 pm, and a reception meal to follow in the Parish Hall. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
