Dorothy Bemus

Dorothy Bemus, age 99, passed away July 15, 2017 in Surprise, Arizona. Dorothy was born October 3, 1917 on the family farm in Sodus, Michigan to William and Sarah Pohlmann. She was raised and attended schools there.

Following her schooling she began working as a waitress locally and met Harry Glenn Murphy. They were married shortly after and made their home in Dowagiac, Michigan where Harry worked as a carpenter and Dorothy began working as a telephone operator which she had done for over 30 years. Harry preceded her in death in 1966 and she later married John Grenawalt. She and John resided in Muskegon and she continued working for At&T. Some years later John passed away and Dorothy continued working for a while until retiring. She then relocated to Arizona in the early 1980's settling in Wickenburg. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church as well as the Gem & Mineral Club and was active in the Community. She re-married Louis Bemus and enjoyed their time together traveling and seeing the country. Louis preceded her in death. Dorothy had been living here in Wickenburg until recently when for health reasons she moved to a care home in Surprise. She was always an avid reader and even upon losing her sight still pursued reading through audio books.

She was a real Diamondbacks fan and spent hours watching and listening to the games.
