Dorothy Surmann

Dorothy Jane Surmann, age 94, passed away on February 17th, 2011 in Wickenburg, Arizona. She was born September 25, 1916 in Pewaukee, Wisconsin to Alfred and Effie Oosterhous. Dorothy obtained her bachelor's from Stout University, in Wisconsin, and worked briefly for the U. S. War department in Washington D.C. as a dietician, as well as serving in the U.S.O. efforts in Washington D.C. and later in Phoenix. On September 20th, 1945 she married Karl W. Surmann, who was currently serving in the South Pacific in the U. S. Navy. Dorothy and Karl made Phoenix their home, and raised their two daughters, Mary Surmann Larsen and Rosalie Surmann Garcia there. Dorothy moved to My Father's Retirement Ranch located here in Wickenburg , after hip replacement surgery in January 2005. She always expressed her love for the ranch and the staff, and truly felt it was home. She lived there for six years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Karl W. Surmann, in 1978. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Larsen and Rose Garcia, granddaughters Rebecca Larsen, Carrie Taylor (James), Stephanie Larsen Niederhausen (Michael), and Mindy Monteith (Scott). Dorothy also had five great-granddaughters, Natalie Monteith, Chloe Monteith, Dianna Monteith, Lia Taylor, and Brynn Taylor. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. at the Potter's House Christian Fellowship Church, located on the corner of Apache and Adams, in Wickenburg Arizona. Interment will take place in Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
