Emma Duaine

Emma Jean Duaine was born Emma Jean Rutherford to William and Ethel Rutherford in Georgetown, Colorado on April 5, 1930. Emma Jean went to be with her Lord and Savior May 29, 2010 in Sun City West, Arizona, not too far from where she'd made her home in Circle City these past 33 years. Emma Jean graduated from high school in Georgetown, Colorado and attended Colorado Women's College in Denver. She went on to have a career in the banking industry both in Colorado and Arizona. In her 80 years Emma Jean lived in Colorado, California, France and Arizona. Though retired, Emma Jean was active to the very end, serving eagerly in her church as well as being active in General Federated Women's Club and working with a children's ministry in Circle City. Last year Emma Jean saw the culmination of nearly three years of work fulfilled with the publication of a book she wrote about her childhood experiences in Colorado during the Great Depression. The book, entitled "The Colorado Whoopenhollars: Living a Good Life Despite the Great Depression" includes her personal memories of the 1930s along with a collection of children's stories written by her father during his time with the U.S. Forest Service. Emma Jean was preceded in death by Husbands: Donald Joseph Florentin in 2009 and Ivan L. Smith in 1987 and John Duaine in 1997 as well as her twin brother John Rutherford in 1998. She is survived by children: Clifford W. Florentin (Marjorie) of Denver, Colorado, John Florentin (Debra) of Upland, California, Michael I. Smith (Jane) of Phoenix, Arizona, Alice Smith of Denver, Colorado, Joyce Smith (Bryan Standley) of Lakewood, Colorado, Ellen Hewitt (Jim) of Circle City, Arizona, Brothers: William Rutherford (Claire) of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Frank "Buff" Rutherford (Mary Lou) of Georgetown, Colorado, Glenn Rutherford (Susan) of Brownsville, Texas, Sister in law Glena Rutherford of Kentucky. Grandchildren: Brad, Sean, Trisha, Erik, Aubrey, Brian, Sarah, Rachel, April, Rick, Aaron, Kate, Dane, Dena, Tina and Adam. Great-Grandchildren: Cassi, Jack, Marli, Riley, Jesilyn, Lucas, Michael, Ryan, Collin, Rileigh, Max, Karrisa, Trevor, Kaleigh, Marlow, Jayme and Jesse. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Poling as officiant. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wickenburg Funeral Home. The family suggests any memorial contribution in Emma Jean's memory be made to the First Presbyterian Church at 180 N. Adams St. Wickenburg, AZ 85390. A Memorial service will be held in Georgetown, Colorado at a later date to be announced.
