Grace Reiner

August 19, 1923 — December 25, 2014

Grace Eva Reiner- 91 of Wickenburg Passed away on Dec. 25, 2014 at Paseo Highlands Care Home in North Phoenix and is now at rest after a lengthy illness. She was born Grace Eva Stickle on Aug. 9, 1923 in Mead Twp., Belmont Cnty., Oh. to Thomas W. and Grace J. Beatty Stickle. She graduated from Triadelphia High School in Wheeling, W.V. and married Charles Frederick Hawes, an electronics instructor and technician in 1941. For a few years they lived on their farm in Blaine, Ohio, but tired of the winters, moved to Fla. for a short time, then headed out west for a drier climate in 1950. They lived in Tucson first, never caring for city life, so came to Wickenburg in 1955, making it their permanent home. Fred and Grace fell in love with the southwest. They lived very simply in their small trailer for many years, embracing a western lifestyle, enjoying their adventures together traveling and camping throughout Arizona and beyond. They often took to the road north in summer to live and work with their friends at Frontier Town, Mt. near Helena, a tourist destination built entirely by hand by their friend, John Quigley. Grace managed the gift shop and Fred helped maintain the equipment and property. Near home they would spend some time on their claim in the desert in their little travel trailer, panning for gold and just enjoying the wilderness. They were married 36 years when Fred suddenly passed away in 1979. Grace met and married Dave Reiner in 1982 and decided to give up their mobile homes for brick and mortar. They were content in their retirement years together until Dave died after a bad fall in 1995. Although Grace enjoyed her part-time employment in Frontier Town, some office bookkeeping and as a clerk at the local drug store during her working years, she was happiest as a homemaker and as a devoted, loving wife and companion. She was artistic and crafty as well as an excellent cook and baker. Kindhearted and pleasant, she was always smiling, laughed easily, had a positive outlook on life and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Grace was a Christian and long time, active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg where she previously sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Martha L. Luhman and is survived by three nieces, and extended family. She is interred at Wickenburg Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church at 180 N. Adams St., Wickenburg, Ariz. officiated by Assoc. Pastor Sam Weinschenk. A remembrance fellowship at the church will follow the service.
