Jay Rom

March 11, 1935 — September 3, 2023

Jay Edward Sherwin Rom, born in Detroit, Michigan on March 11, 1935, went to be with Jesus on September 3, 2023. Jay was a man of profound faith, unwavering strength, and a deep love for his family. Jay spent his early years in Detroit, later moving to Rye, Colorado in September 1972 where he and Sharlene raised their family. They finally settled in Black Canyon City, Arizona. A gifted millwright, he devoted 35 years to the Rocky Mountain Steel Mill before his retirement in June 2007. Nevertheless, Jay's work did not end there. He found joy in the simple, fulfilling tasks of building and fixing things, lending his gifted hands to enhance the beauty of his home.

Jay married the love of his life, Sharlene, on September 21, 1957, and their love story was one for the ages, filled with precious moments, shared dreams, and an unwavering bond that continued until Sharlene's departure from this earth in November 2021. Despite the profound loss, Jay found strength in his faith and his family. His legacy continues through his son, Steve (Mindy) Rom, and his daughter, Sandy (Glen) Simon; his 13 grandchildren Kiersten, Lauren, Andrew (Tallie), Candy (Nic), Sarah, Christian (Christa), Jonathan (Kaylee), Brittany (Matt), Joshua, Ilyssa (Andrew), Eric, Tyler and Zach; and his 9 great grandchildren Elijah, Nivaya, Israel, Coleman, Clayton, Calvin, Charlotte, Maddox, and Everleigh. Jay was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharlene, and his daughter, Susie.

A beacon of faith, Jay served his church in various capacities, as a Board Member, Head Usher, and Sunday School Teacher. Above all, Jay's deepest desire was for everyone to find Jesus as their Savior. His life echoed the verse from John 11:25-26, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die." His life was a testament to his steadfast faith and his profound belief in the redemptive power of Christ's love.
