John Subers

November 20, 1929 — April 25, 2014

John "Jack" Wesley Subers Jr., was born on November 20th, 1929 in Bristol, Pennsylvania and was raised with his cousin, Bub, by his parents, John Wesley and Helen Subers. Jack loved being out in nature, where he rode horses across the Pennsylvania hills and slept under the stars. He was a hard worker and did everything with excellence, whether trimming trees, creating beautiful landscapes, or laying foundations. In 1947, Jack purchased 53 acres of land, on which he planted over 900 trees. It would come to be known as Poplar Ridge Tree Farm, a favorite destination for Christmas trees. He built a home on the property, which also contained two stone quarries. He survived his first wife, Anita Haut, after 20 years of marriage, along with their son, John Wesley Subers III, and helped raised Anita's two children, Charles F. Renfro Jr. and Kathryn R. de Castellane. In 1993, Jack remarried Mary Alice Markley and they lived on the tree farm in Solebury for 12 years. In search of warmer weather, they moved out to Wickenburg, Arizona in 2009 to enjoy the cowboy-atmosphere which Jack always admired and drew. Upon settling in Arizona, Jack took time to finally pursue his hobby of painting, creating beautiful pictures of horses and nature. Mary Alice added three step-children to Jack's family: Richard Markley, Thomas Markley, and Linda Stirzel, along with 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Charles Renfro has one daughter, and Kathryn R. de Castellane was survived by two sons and a daughter. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Wickenburg Bible Fellowship Church at 970 N. Tegner St. in Wickenburg, AZ.
