John Swartz

John Carter Swartz, 76, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 in his Morristown, Arizona home. John was born on January 30, 1943, in Pratt, Kansas to Betty Jo (Burton) & John C. Swartz Sr. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1961.



John was a fantastic story teller and he had a great sense of humor, always able to tell a great joke or two. He loved the outdoors, loved to read and he was really into cattle drive campouts, campfire/Dutch Oven cooking and Cowboy Poetry for a time. He kept and rode his mules until it was no longer safe or practical for him to do so. John also loved woodworking and cooking on his smoker.



John was a Barber for over 33 years, owning or running barber shops in Ft. Riley, Junction City, Dwight, and Council Grove, Kansas; Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma, and Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona. He then picked up locksmithing and owned/operated locksmith businesses in the Wickenburg, Arizona area for over 21 years.



John was a "Friend of Bill W." for over 38 years. He loved his many friends in the program, wherever he was living at the time. He helped many people along the way throughout the years in unity and service.



In October of 2008, John and Sylvia Brenizer committed their love and lives together. Since then they created many memories together, including trips to Europe, reunions and meetings, pot luck meals with friends and taking care of each other.



John was preceded in death by his father, John C. Swartz Sr.; mother, Betty Jo (Burton) Hern; sister, Joyce Ducote; nephew, Mark Ducote; and Stepfather, Russell Hern.



He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Brenizer-Swartz; son, Mitchell (Tammy) Swartz of Kansas City, Missouri; daughters, Candace (Trae) Stokes of South Jordan, UT; Daphne (John) Provard of Herriman, UT; Daneen (Dave) Jensen of Murray, UT; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; niece, Debbie (Ducote)Richards; nephew, John Lattimore; step children, Michael (Jan)Mossman, Mitzi (Ken) Malnar, and Jason (Michelle)Brenizer.



A visitation and service for John will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 8, at the Wickenburg Funeral Home, 187 N. Adams St., Wickenburg, AZ.
