John Zerby

John H. Zerby, age 69, passed away February 10, 2015 at his home in Wickenburg. John was born March 9, 1945 in Buffalo, New York to Leonard & Alice Zerby. He was raised there in his early years and at age 16 moved with his father to Arizona settling in Wickenburg. His father owned and operated the Peak Motel and a machine shop. John graduated from Wickenburg High School and later attended Arizona State University. During that time he began working for a construction and architectural firm. He had to opportunity to work on many projects including the Super Dome in New Orleans and he traveled extensively during his career. He later worked with Del E. Webb Corp. and Schuck Construction. John was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He worked the Desert Caballero Rides annually and had rarely missed a year working the ride. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. John was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Lenny. He is survived by his companion Cindy Shawler of Wickenburg and Son John (Linda) Zerby of Surprise, daughter Stacy (Adrian) Orona-Zerby of Surprise, son Scott (Erin) Shawler of Surprise, daughter Michelle Shawler (Trent Founts) of Flagstaff, brother Robert (Mary Lou) Zerby of Hamburg, NY, sister Nancy (Richard) Chugg of Hamburg, NY and grandchildren: Teagan, Graysen, Sebastian, Stephanie, Kaelyn, Caden, Madison, Stella and Everett. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. The family suggests memorials in John's memory be made to Hospice of Arizona 19820 N. 7th Ave. Ste. 130 Phoenix, AZ 85027
