Albert Leonard Hershkowitz was born January 2, 1941 in Wickenburg, AZ to Harry and Elizabeth Hershkowitz. Leonard attended school in Wickenburg's Little Red School House and graduated in 1959 from Wickenburg High School where he was a standout football and baseball player. Upon graduation Leonard enlisted in the Army where he served in Korea. Once discharged from the Army, Leonard enrolled in barber school, opening his own shop in 1964. For the next 45 years you could count on a good haircut and colorful conversation. In the community he loved he was a volunteer fireman for six years, a Wickenburg Country Club board member, and a coach and supporter of various local youth sports activities. Leonard married Peggy Holland in August of 1960. They raised three children right here in Wickenburg. Leonard was an avid golfer, loved to hunt, was a wonderful cook, and loved a good game of cribbage. His cribbage buddies could always count on the famous Hershkowitz verbal barrage after having a "lucky hand." After a long illness, Leonard peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 22.
