Lucie Alderman

Lucie Rugg Alderman died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on June 10, 2019, in Surprise, Arizona, at the age of 80. Lucie is survived by her husband Arnold Alderman, son Kendall Alderman (Anne Marie) of Connecticut, daughter Zefora Alderman (Dawn) of Beaverton, Oregon, daughter Kim Legler (Ryan) of Milwaukie, Oregon, grandchildren Emily, Katie, Mike, and Nicodemus Alderman, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Harriet Ferrier and Charlene Page. Mrs. Alderman was born October 24, 1938, in Natick, Massachusetts, to Mary Pierce Heinz and Kenneth Rugg. Lucie developed a love for science early in her childhood. She also loved horses, especially "Red" a former fire horse her parents bought her when she was young. Lucie graduated in 1960 with a degree in teaching from Portland-Gorham Teachers College in Gorham, Maine. After graduating, she taught the 5th Grade in Westbrook, Maine. In 1962, she married Arnold Alderman, one year after they met at a square dance in Bennington, VT. After moving with Arnold to Seattle, Washington, Lucie began working for the Seattle School System as a 6th Grade teacher. She followed her husband to Huntsville, Alabama, where they started their family. For the next 16 years she dedicated her tireless efforts to raising their 3 children in St. Louis, Missouri; several small CT towns including Clinton, Stratford, and Milford; San Jose, Petaluma, and Redondo Beach, CA. In 2003, she moved with her husband to Wickenburg, AZ. Lucie was accomplished at painting, photography, stained glass, and other crafts and was a member of several community craft clubs in Stratford and Milford, CT, Redondo Beach, CA, and Wickenburg, AZ. She had a lifelong love of science and was passionate about showing others the beauty she saw in our world. Lucie loved geology and was an avid rock collector. She passed her love of science and art to her children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 29th at 10:00 A.M., at the Wickenburg Bible Fellowship Church at 970 N. Tegner St. in Wickenburg. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, AZ.
