Mack Dowdy

Mack Dowdy, Jr. died at the age of 80 on August 24, 2011. He was born January 27, 1931 in Congress, Arizona to Mary Monte Dowdy and Mack Dowdy, Sr. When Macky was 6 years old, his mother died from pueumonia. Macky went to live with Sarah and William Hershkowitz who raised him as their son along with their children, william Jr., Richard, George, Joyce and Shirley. He grew up in a house full of love and laughter. After graduating from Wickenburg High School in 1949, Macky joined the United States Army and served in a tank corp in Germany. Upon return from the service, Macky worked 19 years for the Town of Wickenburg as a meter reader and another 25 years as an installer for Mountain Bell Telephone Company. He spent many hours with his large family doing the two things he loved - hunting and playing and watching baseball. Macky was a life long member of the Elks lodge, the American Legion and was a greeter at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church for over 20 years. Macky was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald. He is survived by Wanda, his wife of 60 years and his son Gary (Darlene), his grandsons Jason (Deanna) and Greg; his great-grandchildren Tanner Paige, Monte, Korbyn and Kayah; his sisters Joyce (Larry) Fields and Shirley Wachter, his sisters in law Dolores Hershkowitz, Shirley Hershkowitz and Lisa Hershkowitz, his cousin Roberta Jacobs and his great aunts Virginia Monte and Elizabeth Hershkowitz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Services were held on August 26, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Churc in Wickenburg, Arizona, Burial, with military honors, followed at Wickenburg Cemetery.
