Mary Higgins

August 7, 1928 — November 29, 2016

Mary Ellen Higgins passed peacefully November 29, 2016. Born August of 1928 in Illinois to Orval & Grace Jackson, she was an alumna of the Champaign, Illinois schools and the University of Illinois. She married the love of her life, Marshall N. Higgins in June of 1950.

They lived in many parts of the United States and traveled around the world through Marshall's lifelong involvement in aviation. They had owned two different small planes, so Mary Ellen acquired aviation and survival skills through the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. She had a long association with the Girl Scouts of America, Christ Episcopal Church Altar Guild, the Republican Women's Club, the Bethlehem Recreation Board and taught swimming through the Red Cross while a resident of Bethlehem, Connecticut. She was a substitute teacher in the region 14 school district. She always loved travel, sewing and reading. After her husband's passing in 2001, Mary Ellen settled into their retirement home in Wickenburg, Arizona and attended St. Albans Episcopal Church and continued with lap swims in the Town pool.

She is survived by two daughters; Charlotte Higgins of Wickenburg and Elinor Higgins of Oakville, CT, one brother, Orville L. Jackson and wife Margaret of Marietta, GA and four nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
