Miles Preston

Miles Travis Preston of Wickenburg, AZ passed away at his home at the age of 88 on June 4, 2014. Miles was born on January 19, 1926 in Farris, Ok. to Joseph and Margaret Preston, and moved to Wickenburg in 1931. After graduating from Wickenburg High School, Miles went on to serve 3 years in the Navy as an aviation engineer in Pensacola, Florida, returning to Wickenburg where he then married Viola Bywater on June 10, 1946. Miles was a dedicated, hard working man his whole life. Upon his return from the Navy, he started working for Joe Walter's Texaco, and also became a volunteer fireman with the Wickenburg Fire Department. In 1948, Miles started work as a clerk in the post office until becoming Post Master in 1955, where he stayed until his retirement at the age of 55 in 1981. Miles loved his family, the outdoors, and he loved his friends. He looked forward to nothing more than his hunting trips, jeep days out on the desert, and hanging out in his shop with his buddies Jim Baker, Bill Cowley, Mack Dowdy, and George Hershkowitz. (We'd be willing to bet that Mack and George had a lawnchair waiting for Miles, and that the volume in Heaven just got kicked up a notch!) Miles was preceded in death by his wife Viola of 54 years and is survived by his daughters Linda Kubler and Bonnie Weber of Wickenburg, grandchildren Ronda Cunningham (Chris), Melissa Brinkman (Andy), Scott Schlieker (Stephanie), Shelby Holleran (Tim), Daffney Hoffman (Allen), Jeremy Kubler (Kim), and great-grandchildren Preston Brinkman, Dylan Olson, Madison Brinkman, Emily Cunningham, Ashlee Cunningham, McKenzie Holleran, Charles Schlieker, Tatum Brinkman, Hayden Cunningham, Christian Schlieker, Cadance Schlieker, Elizabeth Kubler, and Aubree, AJ, and Cooper Hoffman. Services will be held graveside Saturday, June 14, 2014, 10:00 at Wickenburg Cemetery.
