Robert Joyner

September 24, 1934 — June 26, 2019

Robert Joyner age 84 of Wickenburg, passed away June 25, 2019 in Surprise, Arizona surrounded by his faithful caregivers at Sun View Estates Home Care Center. He was preceded in death by his son Adam.

Robert or "Bob" as he was known by his friends was born in 1934 to the late Kenneth and Margaret Joyner in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were descendants of Irish and English immigrants who came to America in the late 1889's. He was very proud of his heritage and displayed family historical documents and photographs on walls in his home.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1952 through 1973 and served on the USS ODAX, USS John Marshall, USS Daniel Boone and the USS Francis Scott Key. His service education included electronics mechanic at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Washington and a quality assurance specialist at Trident Refit Facility, Bangor, Washington from 1980 - 1993. He served in the military for almost 35 years.

Bob also received from Olympic College an Associate Degree in Technical Arts, as well as earning numerous naval awards. Fidelity - Zeal - Obedience he gave each day.

In 1994 Bob looked at a map and choose Arizona to relocate, finding Wickenburg a western town to his liking. A voracious reader, he decided to open a Paper Back Book Exchange store and joined the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce. After selling the business he had more time to enjoy the desert southwest, entertain friends, volunteer at community events and take in Baseball games. Brooklyn Dodgers fan, Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks memorabilia lined shelves in his home.

For over seventeen years he was an information specialist at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, and master docent for the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. He enjoyed researching local history, and giving hours of time to educate new volunteers for both organizations.

Seven years ago his health started to decline and the last ten months tested his resolve to beat cancer. He was proud of his heritage, service to his country, accomplishments as a westerner and friendships made.

Grateful appreciation to his many in home caregivers from Wickenburg Home Services and Home Instead Senior Care, and the last two months with Angela Damian of Sun View Estates Home Care, and Hope Care Hospice.

Bob is survived by his cat Juno, Gal-Friday Julie Brooks, and by many friends.
