Roger Denton

Roger "Lefty" Denton, age 69 of Wickenburg, passed away on September 24th in Surprise, Az. Roger was born September 13, 1940 in Port Henry, New York and relocated to Iowa where he attended Iowa Wesleyan College. At the age of 18, he signed a two-year pro contract with the Pittsburgh Pirate organization. Roger's southpaw pitching earned him the name "Lefty" as early as 4 years of age. Lefty had a lifelong passion for the game of baseball, particularly the Dodgers team. He worked in the grocery industry most of his career. Lefty was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mikel, and his son Douglas. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Wickenburg: son Danny Denton and wife Laura of Chandler, Ariz.; daughter Denise Bergman and husband Ron of Wickenburg; grandchildren Tiffany, Dillon, Joshua, and Justin; brother Richard Denton of Fultonville, N.Y.; Evelyn's daughters Kimberly Place, Trina McClure, Shannon Shoemake, Same Wilson and their 13 children. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
