Sharlene Rom quietly went home to be with Jesus on November 27, 2021. Sharlene was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 16, 1938 to Richard and Elizabeth Silberhorn. She graduated from Redford Union High School in June 1956 and worked at Burroughs Business Machines until she married Jay Rom on September 21, 1957. Jay was shortly thereafter called into military service and was sent to Germany where Sharlene joined him until he was discharged, and they returned to the US and started their family.
Sharlene and Jay lived in Michigan until September 1972 when they decided to stop vacationing in Colorado and just moved there. They raised their family in Colorado and then retired to Black Canyon City, Arizona in June 2007.
Sharlene loved gardening, and always had an immaculate yard with amazing flowers, plants, and trees where birds of all kinds would frequent. Her house was definitely a key stop for hummingbirds on their migratory path, coming in droves to visit her many feeders! For most of her life, she played the trumpet whether for the Detroit Symphony in her younger years, the church orchestra or just for Jay, whose favorite song to hear her play was "In the Garden."
She is survived by her husband Jay, son Steve (Mindy) and daughter Sandy (Glen); 13 grandchildren Kiersten, Lauren, Andrew, Candy(Nic), Sarah (David), Christian (Christa), Jonathan (Kaylee), Brittany (Matt), Joshua, Ilyssa, Eric, Tyler, and Zach; 7 great grandchildren Elijah, Nivaya, Coleman, Clayton, Charlotte, Maddox, and Everleigh; and sister Margaret Farris. Sharlene is preceded in death by her daughter, Susie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Wickenburg Funeral Home with Visitation 1 hour prior to services followed by interment in the Black Canyon City Cemetery.
The family will host a reception at Jay and Sharlene's home following her interment at Black Canyon City Memorial Cemetery.
