Shirley Hershkowitz

July 13, 1931 — September 8, 2014

Shirley Alice Hershkowitz passed away on September 08, 2014. She was a native to Arizona, born in Humbolt to proud parents, William and Isabel Hoffman. Shirley's father was a butcher and settled the family in Wickenburg. As the baby of her family, Shirley's older brother and sister, Bill & Marianne (Sis), made sure their baby sister never had any wants. Later in life, the roles reversed and Shirley cared for and supported both of her siblings. While attending school in Wickenburg, Shirley made many life-long friends and she met the love of her life, Richard Hershkowitz. She loved him so much she married him twice! Shirley was a telephone operator and worked in California and Richard served in the U.S. Navy. They were married in Mexico before Richard shipped out and went off to fight the war in Korea. After the War, the couple had their first of three sons, Dick, in California. When Richard was discharged from the service the couple settled in Wickenburg where they had two more sons, Bill and Dobie. Family and friends were Shirley's love. Her home was always warm and filled with love for all who entered. If you passed through the door, you were one of the lucky ones! She was a great mother and wonderful grandmother who was proud of all her children and grandchildren. A good game of pinochle, poker, or dominoes and Shirley was there. You had better pay attention as Shirley liked to win, so her opponents would treat the children to ice cream to keep them quiet. Raising 3 very active boys, there was a lot of noise as you can imagine! Hunting was a family passion, and Shirley was always the first one up and fixed coffee and meals for all of her hunters. The front yard was filled with jeeps, but that didn't matter to Shirley. She is now with her beloved husband Richard and son Dick. She is survived by her son Bill and his wife Gail, son Dobie and his wife Sally, and grandchildren: Benjamin, Michael and his wife Christy, Aaron, George and his wife Mindy, Ryan and his wife Alexa, Scott, and Billy Ray. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church 180 N Adams St., Wickenburg, AZ 85390 on September 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
