Thomas Baum

Thomas Alva Baum "Al" rode into the sunset on September 22, 2014. Al was 86. He was born January 27, 1928 in Hanna, Wyoming. Al is preceded in death by his mother Nora, his father Alva, his son Jeffrey Lynn Baum and his sister Lois Baum James. Al is survived by his wife Eleanor Planck Baum and his brother Ray Baum. Together they had four children: Doris Laycock, Jeffrey Baum (deceased), Nora (John) Rubel and Thomas (Kim) Baum. Grandchildren: Alan Gardner, Jennifer (Gary) Sanderlin, Jeffrey (Anna) Baum, Jr., Craig Baum, Cy Rubel (Doug) Acord, John Boice Rubel Jr. Great-Grandchildren: Gracy Gardner, Matthew and Brandon Romero, Kevin and Megan Baum, Reid and Bryce Acord, and many nieces and nephews all of whom will miss him. Al grew up on the Baum Ranch outside Encampment, Wyoming. He attended grade school in Encampment then finished high school in Saratoga, Wyoming. The attended the University of Wyoming on a basketball scholarship. Al was in the Rodeo Cowboys Association, now the P.R.C.A. Competing in Saddle bronc, bareback riding, bull dogging and calf roping. Al moved to Arizona in 1957, worked as a miner and was a guard for the Bracero Work Program at Forepaugh. He was a bartender for the La Cabana. While working at the La Cabana Al had a shop behind the bar where he made bits and spurs. He continued this business until his eyesight began to fail. Al was an assistant manager for Remuda Ranch when it was a guest ranch. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years. In the early 70's Al began the Cowboy Catering Business, serving up the Las Damas ladies and the Rio Verde Rollerettes out of Camp Verde, catering in Monument Valley for movies and commercials then different parts of California. Per his wishes no services are scheduled. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be planned at a later date. The family wishes to thank Hospice Family Care in Prescott, AZ and a special thanks to Cecil & Suzanne Warinner.
